Church Watch Central has a follow-up to the latest blog post from friend and fellow polemicist Rick Becker from ‘Famine in the Land’, with Rick exposing Bethel’s recent frivolous and futile ‘Rediscovering Bethel’ brand campaign:

And what a ‘brand campaign’ this is!

Key points:

  • Over the last few months, Bethel has been in damage control in their rebranding attempt to rescue their reputation with their ‘Rediscover Bethel’ brand campaign.
  • Much of Bethel’s brand campaign dealt with Bethel leaders personally trying to debunk their ‘critics’.
  • In the midst of their brand campaign, Bethel uploaded a recording to their YouTube channel ‘Everyday Prophet Part 1 – Renee Evans’ on July 12, 2021.
  • Renee Evans is a senior leader of Bethel.
  • The ‘Everyday Prophet’ video encouraged Christians to be ‘prophetically activated’, Renee Evans getting people up on stage to ‘prophesy’, the most bogus prophecy talking about ‘glory custard’.
  • She teaches people how to prophesy, claiming that if the Holy Spirit doesn’t give you a word, sentence, scripture or, picture, “make it up. You think I’m joking but I’m not.”

Many people, especially those in traditional churches, have very little understanding of what branding is. It is one thing to have a logo. It’s another to have a brand.

The essential key to understanding branding is that it’s all about managing or manipulating people’s perception about your public image. We’ve seen some of the world’s most morally bankrupt companies engage in such tactics. In other words, is Bethel simply in damage control, managing people’s perception, attempting to repair their already terrible global reputation? Take a look at the issues they are addressing in the videos at the bottom of this article.
