Hillsong, Bethel Music and The Great Seduction

For the first time, Hillsong United is uniting with Bethel (Redding’s) Music for a “Night of Worship” on July 21 @ the Redding Civic Auditorium. Note that by their participation, Hillsong is effectively declaring their affinity with Bethel Redding, it’s music, and by default, it’s doctrines.

That these two groups should join together is hardly surprising, as both have been at the forefront of the transformation of church music – from the worship of God, to effectively worshiping “worship” music – From music that exalts God, into music that exalts an experiential “encounter” with “the presence”, and which magnifies feelings and emotions.

The Word of God says that: “God is a Spirit: those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” – John 4:24 And – “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” – John 17:17; Jesus proclaims: “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” – John 6:63

Many have apparently forgotten that the Holy Spirit will not magnify Himself or some alleged experience, but will magnify Jesus! “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me…” – John 16:13-14

“The Spirit expressly says, that in latter times some shall depart from the faith, *giving heed to SEDUCING spirits, and doctrines of devils!” – 1Tim. 4:1

“Giving heed” implies active LISTENING; And, the Greek word used for “seducing” spirits is planos : meaning ‘imposter”, “deceiver” or “seducing”. Now, consider: The word used in 1Cor. 14:25 for “worship” – [G4352] proskuneo, meaning “…to crouch down, be prostrate or worship” > This word is from G4314 – the same root as the “giving heed in 1Tim.4:1.

Once the enemy gets you in the subjective, sensual, emotional arena, where God’s Word is no longer the objective foundation – Then you can be manipulated, being led by seductive sensations and feelings, and discernment become almost impossible.

It has been observed that much of the contemporary Christian music by Hillsong, Bethel and Jesus Culture, etc. has more in common with the songs of the Trance genre, than with genuine Christian worship.

It is no secret that Bethel Redding teaches the doctrinal aberrations of the New Apostolic Reformation [NAR]. Their practices are also deviant – and from “grave sucking” to “fire tunnels” and the shaking and quaking of the Toronto “blessing”, etc. – Bethel attendees have been shown exhibiting some of the most bizarre occultic manifestations. This is the ripened fruit of Bethel.

Consider what Bethel Music says of itself, that they are: “a worship ministry formed as an extension of Bethel (Redding) Church and founded by Brian and Jenn Johnson”.  A tree is surely known by it’s fruit.

Remember what Hillsong Worship Leader JD revealed on 1/28/2015 – “We [Hillsong Worship] are about fulfilling our Senior Pastor’s [Brian Houston] vision – not our own” and that “As amazing as our creative ideas might be, if they don’t ultimately line up [NOT with scripture, but ) what our Senior Pastor and leaders want, then we happily put them aside… Our worship teams EXIST TO BUILD THE CHURCH!”

Yet somehow all this goes out the window, and discernment is set aside, as their seductive music is extolled as “beautiful” and “wonderful” worship, and is played in bible teaching churches across the globe.

C.H. Fisher (1), in his Truth Keepers blog states: “Many of the ones that rush to associate with Bethel Music in their concerts might never accept the bizarre shenanigans of Bethel Church. The alluring music has seduced them into to associating rather than exposing. Further, Bethel Music’s siren songs have the hypnotic effect of covering up one hard fact. If the spirits of darkness are in the source, then the same spirits are in the flow. “Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?” (James 3:11) “A bad tree cannot bear good fruit.” (Matthew 7:15-20).”

And: “Bethel Music does not go around the country putting on concerts to showcase talent, to entertain people, or to make lots of money. The so-called worship team is on the road for one purpose. That purpose is to unite people with the spirits that comprise its source, Bethel Church.”

And, Instead of exposing the darkness, “professing Christians are bonding with Bethel Music in a concert. They weave and sway with the music, their spirits open and receptive, being stroked by the ebb and flow of the rhythms and hypnotic sounds.” They unwittingly are fellowshiping with demons.

The use of pleasant sounding music to seduce and win converts is not a new tactic. Author Brandon Hines notes: “How was it, then, that Arius spread his [Arian Heresy] doctrine, if it was as clearly venomous as it is? Photius of Constantinople wrote, “Arius, after his secession from the church, composed several songs to be sung by sailors, and by millers, and by travelers along the high road, and others of the same kind, which he adapted to certain tunes, as he thought suitable in each separate case, and thus by degrees seduced the minds of the unlearned by the attractiveness of his songs…” – Enchanted and Ensnared by Music 11/31/16

If the theology of a church is aberrant, it’s music should not be used public worship. A biblical theology of worship is concerned with the true worship of God. True biblical worship must be reverent (Hebrews 12:28). We must understand who is being worshiped. God is holy, just, and perfect. We are sinners saved by grace coming before a holy God on the basis of our Redeemer. worship must be “in truth,” that is, our worship must be properly informed (John 4:24). Unless we have correct knowledge of the God we worship, we will not be worshiping in truth. Those who wish to worship biblically must worship God as He is revealed in Scripture.

If the church teaches and practices false doctrines, it music will, by default, be worshiping a false, or counterfeit Christ.

In the same chapter where the apostle Paul reveals that the enemy “Transforms himself into an angel of light. (and that) Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves…” (2Cor. 11:14-5) he also warns believers that: “I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!: – 2Cor. 11:4-5

I see this leaven so steeped into today’s churches that even the best biblically literate won’t be able to stop it’s spread without becoming a micro-managed hierarchy. Been praying for our music ministry to discern these trends and slowly wean the congregation off this music. Clearly, this tool of the enemy has been extremely effective in drawing the younger believers and/or stagnant, lukewarm followers of Christ. We need to continue to pray for our pastors to lead with firmness and love, not an easy combination in today’s weakened church.

By thinking that they can ‘sidestep’ it and bypass the end times events, by that very act they bring it upon themselves. It will happen, all of prophecy will come to pass as it is written.

I am Roman Catholic. With that said, I agree with 99% of the Bethel ‘Creed.’ Basically a paraphrase of the Nicene. All except for the emphasis on sola scriptura. How is this demonic? Even Christ said “if they are for me they’re not against me.”
Here’s what their website has to say…

    What We Believe (Bethel Church)

“There is only one true God who is the eternal King, Creator and Redeemer of all that is. He is perfectly holy, just, loving and truthful. He has revealed Himself to be eternally self-existent–one being in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

The Bible to be the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God.

Humankind was created in the image of God to know and enjoy Him yet we willfully rejected the Lordship and glory of God for which we were intended. Because of this, sickness, death and judgment entered the world and now creation experiences the effects and consequences of sin.

The Lord Jesus Christ, the one and only Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin, Mary, and is God’s Anointed One, empowered by the Holy Spirit to inaugurate God’s kingdom on earth. He was crucified for our sins, died, was buried, resurrected and ascended into heaven, and is now alive today in the presence of God the Father and in His people. He is “true God” and “true man.” …” > [Edited for brevity by the EW admin]

    1. Bethel Redding is one of the worst apostate churches out there. Just because they post a statement of faith on some webpage that appears biblical does not means they do not hold apostate beliefs and practice occultic practices. From “Grave Sucking” (necromancy), to “Soaking” (contemplative) prayer, to un-biblical divination disguised as “prophecy”, etc., Bethel is up to it’s collective eyeballs in apostasy. The fact that they have gone on record stating that the demonically powered “gifts” exercised by witches and other occultists are the rightful property of Christians and that they need to be “reclaimed” – this speaks volumes about their beliefs. I strongly advise people to flee from this dangerous cult and pray for those deceived by it’s false doctrines and practices.

Do any of you seem to recall Mark 9?

38 Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”
39 But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40 For he who is not against us is on our[c] side. 41 For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward. Mark 9:38-40 NKJV

I think this is a perfect example of what is happening in the church today. Just because someone or some other ministry “does not follow us” (doesn’t agree with us, does something different than we do, etc.) doesn’t mean that they are wrong, it just means we disagree.

We do need to be careful of false doctrines and teaching, but Bethel and Hillsong don’t seem to showing signs of that at all.

      2. Apparently you don’t know the Bible, or you would never say, “…false doctrines and teaching, but Bethel and Hillsong don’t seem to showing signs of that at all.” The facts are that Hillsong and Bethel teach and preach a different Jesus and a different Gospel. They are deceiving people and making lots of money doing it. God’s word warns us: “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed!” – Galatians 1:6-9 It is absolutely critical that people check everything a teacher teaches against God’s Word in the Bible.

If they were really using scripture as the authority, Bethel would be repenting of most of their practices. They are liars, of their father the Devil.

    1. Much of the world thinks “Christianity” is simply a tool of deception and monetary exploitation. Meanwhile, Much of “the church” has now come under the ‘Strong Delusion’ spoken of in 2Thess. 2:3-11.

What is the Christology of Hillsong? I know Bethel is in error in the same way Kenneth Copeland is, saying that Jesus became Christ at his “anointing.” Does Hillsong share this doctrine of the Word of Faith preachers? It may be there, but I’ve never heard it explicitly stated. Also, I’ve never heard of other Prosperity Gospel preachers being guest speakers at Hillsong.
